Pain Management in Hemophilia

In line with the CPN’s vision and mission is the creation of the first pan-Canadian multi-disciplinary task force of patient partners, hematologists, pain experts, nurses, physiotherapists and other health professionals and researchers representing the CPN and Hemophilia Centers across Canada.

Key Objectives for the CWG

  • Identify current trends in chronic pain and acute recurrent pain occurring in hemophilia patients
  • Identify research needs concerning chronic and acute recurring pain in hemophilia
  • Identify training and mentoring opportunities around the study and treatment of chronic/recurring pain and acute pain in hemophilia
  • Identify knowledge translation needs and training opportunities addressing chronic and recurring pain within the hemophilia community and beyond

Process (12 months) – Workplan and Results

An inaugural meeting of the Working Group members was held to ratify their terms of reference in December 2017. A work plan was be developed to accomplish the following tasks:

  • Conduct a scoping review of pain management in patients with hemophilia
  • Carry out key informant interviews and information gathering
  • Identify current trends in chronic pain and acute recurrent pain occurring in hemophilia patients
  • Identify research needs concerning chronic and acute recurring pain in hemophilia
  • Identify training and mentoring opportunities around the study and treatment of chronic/recurring pain in hemophilia
  • Identify knowledge translation needs and training opportunities addressing chronic and recurring pain within the hemophilia community and beyond
